Vehicles Privacy Policy
Effective August 8, 2026
Overview
Vehicles is a car and motorcycle maintenance tracker. There is no account, sign-up, or login. Almost everything you enter — vehicles, service records, mileage, fuel entries, documents, and photos — is stored only in a local database on your device and is never sent to us or to any server we operate. The few exceptions, where limited data leaves your device to power specific optional features, are described below.
Data You Enter
Vehicle details (make, model, year, VIN, license plate, color, mileage), maintenance and fuel records, notes, receipts, documents, and photos you attach all stay in local storage on your device. We do not have a server that stores, backs up, or has access to this data, and we cannot see it.
Optional AI-Powered Features
Vehicles offers optional features — VIN photo scanning, receipt scanning, spreadsheet import, AI-generated maintenance plans, and an AI chat assistant — that use Anthropic's Claude AI to read, extract, or answer questions about information you choose to use with that feature. These features only run when you actively trigger them. When you do, the relevant photo, file, or text content is sent through a server we operate, which forwards it to Anthropic's API for processing and returns the result to the app; we do not log, store, or retain a copy of what's sent. The AI chat assistant may also reference vehicle and maintenance data already stored in the app in order to answer your questions or take an action you ask for. This data is not used to train AI models. If you don't use these features, nothing is sent anywhere.
Vehicle Data Lookups
When you decode a VIN, the 17-character VIN is sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's free public vehicle database (vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov) to look up the vehicle's make, model, and year. When you look up fuel economy information, the vehicle's year, make, and model are sent to the U.S. Department of Energy's public fuel economy database (fueleconomy.gov). No other information about you or your device is sent as part of these requests.
Subscriptions
Premium is offered as an in-app purchase or subscription, billed and processed entirely by Apple. We use RevenueCat, a subscription management provider, to activate and keep track of your premium entitlement. RevenueCat receives your purchase/transaction history and an anonymous device identifier — it does not receive your name, email, vehicle data, or any content from the app. We never see or store your payment details ourselves.
Camera and Photo Library Access
If you grant camera or photo library access, it's used only to let you attach photos of your vehicles or documents, or to select a photo for the AI scanning features described above. Photos you don't choose to use are never accessed.
Notifications
Maintenance reminders are scheduled as local notifications on your device. They are not sent through a push notification server and involve no data leaving your device.
Backups and Exports
You can export a backup of your data as a file at any time. That file is created on your device and saved or shared wherever you choose (such as Files, iCloud Drive, or email) — we have no access to it and no copy is sent to us.
No Ads, Analytics, or Tracking
Vehicles does not display ads, does not include third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and does not sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
Data Retention and Deletion
Because your data lives locally on your device, you control it directly: deleting a record in the app deletes it immediately, and uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data. Since we don't hold a copy, we cannot restore data you've deleted or lost.
Children's Privacy
Vehicles is not directed at children under 13, does not knowingly collect personal information from children, and does not include any account or communication features.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date above. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
